I want to share a card today made with another new set from Pink Poison called Christmas Birds. You'll notice I didn't use the birds on this card, but the pointsetti. I stamped them in red and green and then cut them out. Some the whole flower and others just the center smaller flower. In order to get a perfect circle to work with I used my Nesties and then glued the images around that. For the bow I stamped the bow stamp on a piece of gold paper left over from another project. I even used my CB to create a red backround piece with Snowflakes.

   

Barry is off today from the shelter. They told him to take the day off since he'll be working until who knows when there. So many of the folks staying in our area can't go home yet because there is wide spread power outages. That means no water, no gas, and even in some areas, the roads are still unpassable. We are going to try and get a few things done around the house. After all, his parents are coming in a week and I've been waiting for the "maids" to come and save me. Since that doesn't seem likely, I guess I need to finally get my act together!! Ok, so that's a maybe!

Friends & A Card For You & Blog Candy

 

In this funny, sometimes wonderful, sometimes cruel world, friends are really what life is all about!  I have friends I hear from all the time, and friends I KNOW will always be there if I need them, even if I only talk to them on New Year's Eve, but all are my friends. I have good friends I've never met in person. Those are what I like to think of as friends of the heart. So for all of my friends, this card is a thank you! It was made using a wonderful new set of stamps from Pink Poison. I used some more of the new Basic Grey papers. The colors are wonderful and I matched the papers up with Copic markers. The little "friends" is part of a stamp that says "forever friends". I just inked up the part I needed and punched it out with an SU punch. If you really like the card, please leave a comment about you and your friends. On Sunday night I'll draw a random comment and send the card to you. I'll even be putting in some new flowers that just came in the mail along with a few $ sets of stamps!!!!

We haven't gotten the rainy weather yet in Dallas. It's suppose to get to us this afternoon some time. Barry is off to the Red Cross shelter today. They had almost 140 people last night when he came home. Men, women, children, and lots of babies! The Red Cross is a good cause and if you can part with a dollar or two, give to them. The money goes a long way helping out.

I'm off to do a few things before the rain takes over today, so have a good weekend. Say prayer for those who lost so much in the storms and say thank you for all the things you have.

UPDATE 9/12 STORM WARNINGS

Just a short note to friends and family alike that we are ok. My in box has been flooded with emails of concern and I can't say how much it's touched my heart to know we are loved! We're about 5 hours from the coast so we won't get all the winds and rain that come to shore when Ike hits, but because it's such a big storm and at this point they think it will travel up the state, Dallas will be in for some windy and rainy weather tomorrow and Sunday. They think we may even loss our power, so we went to Wally World last night and got new flashlights with batteries. Barry is working in the Red Cross shelter and didn't want me to be without light if something happens. Other then that, we are fine and still waiting for that magic phone call that will get Barry back to a paying job--until then at least he is helping out with something important!

A Day To Remember

I know I went to work for American Airlines that day 7 years ago just like any other day I worked for them. It started out as the same old hot September day, but in the end it changed us all. Someone turned on a television in one of the offices and we sat watching it, just not believing what we saw. I had a radio going on in my office at the time of the first plane crashing and remember just turning it up so everyone around me could hear. My phone starting ringing off the hook from family and friends. Even my good friend who sat in an office across from me didn't know what to say. Now, 7 years later, while we honor those good people who died that day, we speak of change again. Change is the newest "buzz" word. Change is something you hear every election. If it's a local, state, or national election. But today I want you to think of the changes that NEED to be made in our country. I know it's an old question, but still rings true today, ARE WE BETTER OFF NOW THEN WE WERE 4 YEARS AGO????? I can't speak for that "everyone" that so many people think they speak for, but only for me and mine. NO, I'm not better off, and NO, I don't think the American people are either. We have a broken government and it needs to be fixed. There are NO due-overs! I truly believe, from the bottom of my heart, that John McCain is NOT the change we need! He has been part of the problem that has changed our nation into something that is NOT better for us, our children, and our grandchildren. If we have any more debt, we'll be lucky if our great-grandchildren will be able to dig out of this mess! Now, if you believe as I do, I'm proud of you, but if you really think the answer we ALL seek is in the same old name calling type of politics that is going on now, you deserve what you get, it's just too bad the rest of us will have to suffer!!

Christmas Already?

 

I've had several emails from friends and customers alike asking for more Riley cards and more Christmas cards, so I combined them into one and the same!! I took my cute little guy and gave him a plane in holiday colors, then added a hat from another Riley card and stamped the little Moose saying...and now we have a holiday Moose! I wanted the new fern punch from Martha that everyone seems to be using, to add a more fall or winter feeling with the flowers. I think this one works. I have lots of Basic Grey left from last year and even the year before so I think I'll try using some of that until the new stuff comes out next month.

Today Barry is suppose to go to a job fair. He has yet to get even dressed to go out. He's busy watching the news on TV still. I have to give him a push in that direction soon. I want to get a few cards done or at least get some images stamped out. We'll see how far I get with that idea!

Fifty Cent Movie Day

If it's Tuesday, it must be .50 movie day! Why yes it is and we went and saw Indy Jones today. Nice movie. They could have had a lot less bugs, but other then that it was cute and I liked the ending. So ok.

I put a few cards on ebay yesterday and all but one got sold. I'm trying to work on a few new Christmas cards. I've come up with a fun design that I'll share soon. It involves Riley the Moose!

This card is one I made while trying out some collage work. I always have a hard time with it, but what the heck, I keep trying! I ended up sending it to my in laws for their 63rd anniversary tomorrow. I used a chipboard heart and painted it with an ink dubber.  Enjoy and have a good day. Come back again and we'll talk about some important issues---I'm just not in the mood to flight today!

WOW! A New Week

Last night we went to Larry & Tina's house to celebrate Grandparent's Day. The company was wonderful. We got to see all the kids. Sunday is family night at their house, so even  Justin was home for dinner. Evan joined us too. Madelyn & Justin made a hand print card with both of their hands for us. I couldn't have gotten a nicer gift. Ok, maybe a winning Lotto ticket or to hear Evan was getting married, but besides those things, this was a perfect night!

Barry has a Lion's meeting tonight so I can have a few hours to myself. The best part---I don't have to cook dinner! A big yea for me! I didn't get a lot of stamping time in this weekend. I feel like I'm in limbo with making cards. I know I have DT work to do, but don't want to do that and I have to start on Christmas cards, but I don't want to do that either. And the most important stuff I have to do is to start to clean the house, but I DON'T want to do that either. Oh well, maybe going back to bed would be a good idea!

I did make this fall card this past week. I think it turned out wonderful! I found a piece of red checked paper in my stash. I think it's from Bo Bunny from last year. I could be wrong, so don't hold me to it. I used a Lizzie Anne harvest set. I really like this set. I stamped all the images first, colored them with copic markers and then cut them out. I popped them all up. The leaves where punched and then I used one of the stamps with swirls to give them some life. All the shine on the flowers came from Crystal Glaze and then some glitter. Nice touch.

Thank You Friends

And a big hug to all of those people who took the time to read my blog about the choice for VP this week. The Republican party is just so different from everything I believe in that I needed to speak my mine! For the people who left my blog, their lost.

Tonight my GF and her hubby met up with Barry and I at the Holy Store, otherwise known as the stamp store. See I do have my stuff in the right order. They had their Christmas preview party and it was so fun. Everything was 20% off in the store. I bought 2 new pads of 6x6 paper, several new stamps for the holidays and a pretty, pretty new stamp that says "Bloom"! I didn't do any of the make-an-takes. Gretchen did one. After we left them some of our play money we headed out for Pizza. Since Gretchen won't be in town for her birthday I carried my goodie bag to her. A set of stamps, paper and cool ribbon. I made a special card for her last week but didn't tell her it was for her. It's such a fun treat to be with them.

No plans for the weekend except Sam's and start to clean up a little. I sat in my studio today and looked around thinking where do I start???? I have to make room for the beds to be delivered in two weeks. So my offer still stands---there is always room at the inn for a willing worker!! Will pay in ink!!

I made this card several weeks ago, I found this layout while blog surfing and instant love was found. I'm so sorry I don't remember where it came from, so forgive me if it's yours. If it is, please let me know so I can give credit. I had planned on a set of 4, but so far only this child got made.   I hope to make the rest as a gift for my MIL when she comes. I have a whole pile of cards saved up for her. What doesn't sell on ebay, goes in the pile. It's growing very nicely!!

All Righty...That Woman Scares ME

Have you been watching the Republican convention? I have. I'm interested in what they have to say. No, I'm not voting for any of them, but I do want to be informed. I have to say that any woman who is a lifelong NRA member scares me! Hey, I think I'm a liberal woman, but gun toting, NO! She opposes I think, most everything I believe in. My right to chose, sex eduction in school to name just two. I felt as if she were shouting at me last night. I know there may be readers of this blog who think she's great. Your choice, I understand, but not now nor ever! If it was my daughter up there "with child" and only 17 and unwed, I don't think I'd be so proud of the fact that I opposed sex eduction! It seems she didn't learn it at home either.  So, have I lost all my readers now? Or maybe just the ones that don't agree with me. Sorry about that, but I really needed to voice how I feel.

 

Well, at least you can look at a card I made yesterday and enjoy that! I used the flower from Verve and the verse is new from SU. I wanted the green to match and since SU doesn't think they should do markers with the new colors, I just used my blender pen and the ink pad and colored. The paper is My Mind's Eye. I think I must have bought back at least 3 sheets from FL of this paper, but I really love these colors.

That's it for today. Barry is home since they closed the shelter. Of course I didn't do a thing in my studio except look around and try and figure out how I'm going to clean it when the in laws come. I don't know where to start. I'm offering free food and use of my stamps if anyone wants to fly over to Dallas and help me. No? I didn't I'd have any takers, but.....
